Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education - these units were 40 years apart...However, the first unit was with little pastoral experience; the second unit was 40 years of pastoral experience. The 40 years between these two units provided for many successes and personal failures along the way. If anything, the failures through substance abuse and addiction led to the greatest personal challenges as well as growth and maturity over these 35 years of sobriety.
Golf has provided a great outlet for fun and being outside. It is a difficult game for sure and has enabled me
to stop taking myself so serious and just enjoy the outdoors and being in the company of friends.
Pottery is something I would have never imagined myself doing.
It started when I was in treatment for addiction/substance abuse. I was in residential treatment for 7 months and
my therapist recommended that I give pottery a try since there was a shop on the campus. I did it
reluctantly and it really enjoyed it. The old Irish lady who ran the shop took a liking to me and coached me along
the way. I had never really thought of myself as making something, or creating something, it was and has been
a tremendous hobby and outlet.
