While answering 911 calls I got a call from a cell phone from a man asked for the suicide hot line. I transferred the call and stayed on the line, while on the line the suicide hotline responder put the man on hold. The man became very upset about being on hold so I let him know that I was still there and that I could talk to him. The man told me was going to shoot himself. I began to talk with him about what was going on and he started to calm down and talk to me. I was listening to the back ground noises and between the back ground noises and some of our conversation I figured out where he was and dispatched officers to his location. The man saw the officers and started to get upset again but I was able to use the bond that we had built and talk him into allowing the officers to approach him with the understanding that he would put his gun out on the roof of his car and follow my instructions so the officers could assist him in getting the help he needed to stay with he family. The entire call took about 45 minutes and was being monitored by both a hostage negotiator and the Suicide Hotline. The man was successfully taken to a hospital for treatment with no further incident.
