Jefferson College Area Technical School Program-HVAC

Over the first two semesters in the HVAC program, the student will take four classes: Basic Electric, Sheet Metal, Principles of Refrigeration, and Piping and Design. Below is a sample of the skills the students can expect to learn during their first year in the program:

  • How to use an electrical tester
  • Common electrical symbols used in the HVAC industry
  • How to do basic electrical trouble-shooting
  • How to read a basic wiring diagram
  • How to properly use pipe wrenches
  • How to calculate the longest run for gas fuel runs
  • How to properly size ductwork for a house
  • How to fabricate sheet metal
  • The refrigeration circuit
  • How to calculate superheat/sub-cooling
  • How to braze copper tubing

First year students will also have the opportunity to earn the OSHA 30 credential.
