I am about 2 years into my medical/health science degree and I am currently enrolled at Washington University to graduate with a BS in health science to continue working in the lab/clinical setting. I have 6 years of experience in the toxicology field where I worked in a CAP/CLIA certified laboratory processing samples, doing immunoassay test runs as well as LC/MS test prep, aliquoting samples and pipetting oral specimen for testing. Other ancillary tasks included manually signing in 2-ply chains of custody, storing samples, keeping temperature logs for freezers I also have about a year of experience in the radiochemistry field where I ran daily QC on detectors, ran daily, weekly and monthly backgrounds, loaded samples onto detectors, logged rate limits at timed intervals, performed Alpha spectrometry, liquid scintillation, Gamma spectrometry and GPC testing, wrote a review and data analysis on the information collected through testing. I have worked in the dermatopathology lab of Washington University accessioning incoming skin and tissue samples. For a year I learned how to transcribe pathology information on individual cases, order stains, match appropriate stains on cases, identify H&E vs immunohistochemical stained glass slides, prepare consultations for pathologists to view, communicate effectively between pathologists, clinicians and outside facilities to ensure we are on the same page for the best patient care. I currently work as a Research Specialist in the neurology department at Washington University. In this department I assist with specimen processing of blood and cerebrospinal fluid, store samples, assist with running assays as well as analyze the data from testing and create data sets to present information to my team as well as my PI Suzanne Schindler.
