Sylvania Lighting Inc. hired me as a Lighting maintenance technician, primarily due to my vast experience working out of a bucket truck in my CATV career, but also due to my project management skills.
As a remote technician, I worked on my own, away from the home office, out of my truck and a storage unit.
Was responsible for processing email work orders, material management, and ordering.
Going to customers' locations to repair, install, and maintain parking lot lights and signs, as well as all interior lighting repairs.
Interacted with customers' upper and lower management, as well as their technical support if needed.
Managed route schedule and processed all communication and paperwork to the home office regularly.
Coordinated all work with the customer's contact and our dispatcher at Superior Lighting in Omaha, NE.
I retired from the bucket work in August of 2025.

Started my Cable TV career in 1975 as a construction lineman/laborer, advanced to construction manager in 1979.
Conducted design and construction of new CATV systems, led a construction crew, and ensured project management from initiation to completion.
Moved to Blue Springs, MO in 1985 and started working in the Time Warner cable system in Kansas City as a contract installer.
Worked for several different contractors over the next 15 years in multiple roles, including installer (was #1 producing installer at every contractor I worked for), installation manager responsible for hiring, training, scheduling routes, quality control of work performed by installers, processing completed paperwork and documentation, and creating invoices for completed work to Time Warner.
I held this position for 3 different contractors. L&H CATV, Cableman Inc., and Metro Cable TV.
In 1998, Time Warner offered me a position as an in-house maintenance technician, and I accepted.
Time Warner had a 12-level technician training program. Due to my prior industry experience and Time Warner's familiarity with me, I started as a level 5 technician.
Over the next 4 years, I completed training for, and earned the position of a level 11 technician, advancing to a senior maintenance/training technician.
In 2000, I applied internally for a Project Manager position in the newly formed Time Warner upgrade department.
This was a major, multimillion-dollar fiber-optic upgrade for the Kansas City system.
My team's responsibilities, and mine as project manager was primarily focused on upgrading every apartment complex within the CATV system.
Managed all aspects of multiple million-dollar upgrade projects, overseeing design, contractor hiring, and construction phase completion.
Collaborated with contractors on-site to clarify project requirements and set expectations.
Conducted quality control checks and processed contractors' invoices, approving payments for completed projects.
